Researcher in Environmental and Applied Botany at the University of Siena. His main interests concern investigations on plant species and communities in agroecosystems and agricultural landscapes, with special reference to the environmental and management factors that influence their diversity in different types of ecosystems. Other areas of research are the monitoring of Natura 2000 habitats, the use of vascular plants as a surrogate of other taxonomic groups, and the study of wetland vegetation. He served as a reviewer for numerous international scientific journals and he authored or co-authored 43 scientific articles in Scopus and/or WoS-indexed journals. He is a member of the board of the Working Group for Ecology of the Italian Botanical Society.
