Assunta Lombardi

Department of Biology

Professor of Physiology at the University of Naples Federico II, in 1997 received a PhD in Physiology and in 1999 the specialization in Food Science. She was post doc in Italy and at the Institute National de la recherche Agronomique (INRA) Rennes. She was researcher at the Department of Biology of Federico II University (Napoli-Italy) from 2002 to 2014 and associated professor since 2014. The main aspect of her researches is the study of mechanisms involved in the regulation of energy metabolism and mitochondrial functionality. Particular attention was given to the assessment of the metabolic effects exerted by 3.5-diiodo-l-tyronine and to the role played by the uncoupling protein-3 in mitochondrial functionality. The identification of bioactive compounds able to influence mitochondrial bioenergetic and metabolic homeostasis are studies interests. She is a member of the Italian society of Physiology and of the European Thyroid Association.
