Francesco Loreto


Department of Biology


Francesco Loreto is Research Director at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), where he has also directed the Institute for Plant Protection (2009-2012), and a Full Professor of plant physiology at the Department of Biology of the University Federico II – Naples. Since 2012 Dr Loreto is the director of the Department of Biology, Agriculture and Food Science (CNR-DiSBA) coordinating the activities of ten CNR Institutes and more than 1000 researchers and technologists around Italy. Dr Loreto has been a delegate of the Italian Ministry of Research and Education for the Bioeconomy at the European Commission and at several COST actions, and a member of the scientific steering committees of the “Integrated Land Ecosystem Atmosphere Process Study programme” (iLEAPS), a core-programme of the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP), and of the Parco Tecnologico Padano. He has also served in the scientific steering committee preparing the Foundation Human Technopole in Milan. Dr Loreto has coordinated/is coordinating eight European projects on biogenic emissions and their role in organismal defense, communication, food quality and safety, and relationships between biosphere/hydrosphere/atmosphere. He has also coordinated the scientific content of the Italian Pavilion and the scientific content of the participation of the Lombardy Region at EXPO 2015. Dr Loreto has published so far (June 2020) 230 papers on peer-reviewed ISI-indexed international journals, with a total number of citations > 20500, and a H index = 75
